The BSc Sociology degree focuses on the study of human behaviour as it pertains to human interaction within the guidelines of an organisational structure. Human behaviour is complex and greatly influenced and governed by social, religious, and legal guidelines. The degree aims to examine specific examples of social action, social processes and institutions; looks at different methods of social research at both theoretical and practical levels.

Programme Structure

The degree consists of 12 units when taken through the Standard Route and 9 units through the Graduate Entry Route.

What are my career options?

This degree will prepare you for careers in teaching, research, social and welfare service, journalism, in the prisons or police force, personnel management or as an administrator. Sociologists also have opportunities for careers in government agencies dealing with servicing specific demographics and business where they help corporations understand consumer trends and meet consumer needs. Some sociologists work in prison system, helping to deisgn more effective incarceration and rehabilitation methods while others are counsellors, educators or researchers. Other careers in sociology include working in social services.
